Ullas Naik
Managing Director
Ullas has been a Managing Director with Globespan Capital Partners since the firm's inception. He is based in Globespan's Palo Alto office where he focuses on investing in Enterprise Computing and Internet/Mobile companies. He also leads Globespan's Energy investment practice.
Ullas is passionate about identifying promising future technology trends and partnering with entrepreneurs to build significant sustainable value within those trends. His experience as an entrepreneur and as an investor has taught him that working with strong teams and adapting intelligently to change is the only way to create and sustain long term business value.
Ullas serves on the boards of Certeon, Nantero, Optaros, Virident and ZeaChem. He also led Globespan's investments in Calisolar, Coskata and GlassHouse Technologies and is actively involved in Globespan's invesment in Ampulse. Previously, he led Globespan's investments in Advent Solar (acquired by Applied Materials), BladeLogic (NASDAQ:BLOG; acquired by BMC Software), Millennial Net (acquired by Festo), Pirus Networks (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Revivio (acquired by Symantec Corp) and Solar Power Partners (acquired by NRG Energy).
In addition, over the last 15 years, Ullas has been an active Angel and early individual investor in leading technology and cleantech companies, including Arbinet (ARBX), Critical Path (CPTH), InterTrust (ITRU), iRobot (IRBT), BridgeLux, Sandforce (acquired by LSI Corp.), SunLink and others.
Prior to joining Globespan, Ullas served as Managing Director of JAFCO Ventures. Before that, he served as a Senior Vice President in the Technology Research Group at First Albany, where he was named a "Wall Street All-Star" by Fortune Magazine and recognized by The Wall Street Journal as one of the top technology analysts in the country.
At First Albany, he led the financings of companies including IDT Corp. (IDTC), Critical Path (CPTH), Forrester Research (FORR), Mainspring (MSPR, then acquired by IBM), NaviSite (NAVI), and USWeb (USWB, then acquired by MarchFirst). Prior to First Albany, Ullas started his career as an entrepreneur as the founder and operator of a specialty chemicals trading company in India.
Ullas earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Bombay University in India and an MBA from Bentley College. Ullas lives in Palo Alto with his wife and two daughters. |
