Toyoji Kanagawa
Director of Asian Business Development
As Director of Asian Business Development in Globespan's Tokyo office, Toyoji helps our portfolio companies to expand their businesses into Asia. Toyoji brings a winning combination of business expertise, technical know-how and cultural experience to the job.
In his role at Globespan, Toyoji leverages his expertise in business strategy, business development and product marketing to help "emerging technologies turn into innovative businesses." He is consistently impressed by the "adaptability of our entrepreneurs, who are able to guide their companies in the right direction in this very dynamic environment." Through an approach grounded in mutual trust, Toyoji opens his extensive network to the firm's entrepreneurs, working as a team to develop successful entry strategies into Asia.
Before he decided "it was time to help IT start-ups succeed" at Globespan, Toyoji spent 15 years as an IT and management consultant at some of the world's leading technology companies, where he learned first-hand the importance of teamwork to business success. At IBM Japan and Oracle, he primarily worked as a core technology consultant specializing in UNIX and RDBMS. While at Oracle, he was also responsible for the internationalization of Oracle Application Server products and earned his way into the Oracle Club of Excellence for three consecutive years. At BEA Systems, Toyoji successfully launched solutions for the company's Japanese subsidiary to accelerate license revenues of the WebLogic Platform. Then, as a management consultant at A.T. Kearney, he helped the largest systems integrator in Japan develop and implement a re-entry strategy into Asia. Toyoji also assisted the IT business division of a Japanese zaibatsu in identifying target IT market segments and refining its business model.
Born and raised in the beautiful port town of Maizuru City in Japan, Toyoji, an active IEEE member, earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees of Engineering at Toyohashi University of Technology in Japan. He also has an M.B.A., with a Dean's Award, from the University of Texas at Austin. When he is not breaking new ground in Asia, Toyoji spends his free time reading and visiting museums and historical places. |
